Over the next several years I broadened my experience from the Hospitality Industry to Wholesale Distribution. I worked my way through the CGA program and, as an Accounting Manager for Canada’s second largest electrical industrial wholesaler actively developed leading edge “Total Quality Management” systems and processes. Our productivity gains enabled us to dramatically reduce overhead costs while simultaneously increasing outputs. Working on the client side of audits within a public company also enabled me to improve file preparation and reduce the audit time and costs. My family relocated to the Fraser Valley where I gained valuable experience as an Assistant Controller in a multi-company environment with interests in: Construction, Equipment Rental, Waste Management and Transportation. I directly implemented a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system that was able to service all the various interests of the assorted partnerships and corporations. I entered public practice in 1995 as a staff accountant with the CGA firm of Harrison, Pankratz & Co. and expanded my experience to include a wide range of Taxation issues and formal Financial Statement preparation. In 1998 a long time friend approached me with an opportunity to be the Controller at his family’s wholesale wood distribution business which I accepted with the understanding that I would be able to continue to manage my own part time public practice. The Controller role has grown to become that of Chief Financial Officer. I proudly wear both hats and enjoy the opportunities for growth and development that each offer. Why Richard?
